U11 Camogie County Champions!
Huge congratulations to our u11 camogie team who won their county final in Semple Stadium on Monday last, the 20th of June. The girls made history by winning the school's first camogie county title and our school's third county title overall, the last of which was in 2000. In what was described as the game of the week, Clonmore N.S. defeated a superb Rathcabbin N.S. by one point, 7-4 to 7-3. In an amazing finish to the game, with the lead changing hands on numerous times, the girls never gave up and fought right to the end. With the teams tied at 7-3 apiece, Rachel Delahunty won a last minute free. Katie Bergin stepped up to strike the winner and with that came the final whistle. There were great scenes of joy after as the girls were joined at the side of the pitch by family and friends. Katie Bergin received the trophy on behalf of the team, to huge cheers from the Clonmore support. The following moments will live long in the memory for the girls and all in Clonmore N.S. It was a lovely opportunity to take pictures with family and friends and enjoy all that Semple Stadium had to offer on County Final Day. It was back then to the Wrenn's Nest for food, where the team enjoyed a great ovation on arrival.
It was an amazing day for everyone associated with the school and village. All the girls played their hearts out and did their school, families and community proud. Grace Timmons had an outstanding game in goal, pulling off a number of great saves. Aoife Patterson, Rachel Delahunty and Sarah Leahy all did tremendous work. Chloe Ryan, Alison Grimes and our three subs who got to grace Semple Stadium, Ellie-Mai O'Shea, Shania McCormack and Emma Nolan, all contributed much to a famous win. Not forgetting Ella Patterson, Martha Gilman and Naomi O'Keefe who were also on the panel. But special mention must go to our captain, Katie Bergin. Katie gave one of the great displays seen in Semple Stadium and showed tremendous leadership, courage and skill. I don't think it will be the last time we will see Katie starring in the famous stadium.
Finally some thank yous are needed. The girls were kitted out very well on the day. Huge thanks to Jack and Margo O'Shea for sponsoring socks and to Brian and Linda Delahunty for sponsoring shorts for the girls. Thanks to Martin Bourke for all his help and support throughout all the matches, and to the JK Brackens Club for their kind donation. Thank you to Darren and the team in the Wrenn's Nest for looking after us so well after the game. To all the staff in Clonmore N.S. who give up their time to coach the children after school, host school leagues and promote the games, well done! Lastly, we had great support in Semple Stadium and this added wonderfully to the occasion. Thank you to everyone who came over to cheer on our team.
A fantastic way to end the school year and memories that will last a life time. Clonmore Abú!
