Clonmore N.S. triumphantly raised our fourth Green Flag on 25th June 2012, to the applause of the entire school community, parents and students alike. It was a special day for Clonmore N.S. as it marked a remarkable journey where we can now boast that we have between 11-17 children cycling to school on a regular basis. This is a great achievement as when we started the programme we had no children cycling to school.
The Green Schools Committee or the 'Green Team' put an incredible effort into the promotion of Green Travel through competitions, awareness raising, cycle safety quizzes and much more.
Green Schools Travel Officer, Ellen O'Sullivan, said "when we started on the theme we weren't sure what we could achieve and now two years later, more and more children are cycling and walking to school. Green-Schools would like to congratulate the staff, pupils and parents on their achievements and thank them for their dedication to the programme. Journeys to school have a major environmental impact and it is wonderful to see such a change coming to pass."
The event also saw the launch of our newly installed cycle parking which was provided under An Taisce's Green Schools Programme and funded by the Department of Transport.
